21 Apr Mallorca Day 1 – Introduction to the hills
Getting ready to ride in the middle of a scene which could only be described as a grand depart assembling gave a great buzz for the start of our first unguided ride.
So off we set and straight up! There were the hills! Still covered in mist from the nights rain. Cool and refreshing as the heart rate started to come back down.
My plan for the day was to stay as close to NoMeanFeet AKA Andy on the climbs as possible. Our typical rides I he’d be long gone. So the toys, the kitchen sink and any other heavy thing you can think of got through away.
We very quickly learnt why Mallorca is a cycling mecca!
The views are outstanding!
Thank fully Dennis from Stephen Roche cycling had warned us of how slippery the roads could be as we were quickly descending on the damp roads. Eventually though the sun breaks through and we can gather some more speed on the descents and keep the heat off the climbs.
Heading south east along the coast, started to wonder what does everyone else know that I don’t. We must have passed a hundred cyclists coming the other way and we were the only two to be seen on our side of the road.
With only a potential 200m of climbing to go the Garmin decides it has other ideas. After a quick game of guess the fruit we are off again.
Finished back at the hotel 88km and 3.5 hours later strava says we climbed 2252 meters.
